SUMMARY:Award Celebration Creative Generation 3
DESCRIPTION:On 6 March 2020 we will celebrate the announcement of the five awardees for CREATIVE GENERATION 3 at FUTURES Factory. \nOver the last year young Cambodian artists\, between the age of 18 and 30\, were invited to apply to the CREATIVE GENERATION 3 award. Each application was individually scored by seven judges\, all of whom work in the arts and are familiar with the Cambodian art scene. The judges were asked to consider each application according to their portfolio submission\, exhibition proposal and overall potential of the artist. The five highest scoring applications were selected to receive the CREATIVE GENERATION award. We are very excited to announce the five winning artists (in alphabetical order)! \n• Mech Choulay\n• Kong Siden\n• Ry Savroun\n• Song Seakleng\n• Vong Chandarey \nAs CREATIVE GENERATION awardees each artist will receive a cash prize and trophy\, participate in a three month mentorship program and finally\, present their work in a solo exhibition. \nCREATIVE GENERATION is possible thanks to the generous support of: Karen McLeod Adair & Anthony Adair\, Australian collectors of contemporary Cambodian art and supporters of young artists. With additional support from Debra Fram. \nIt is powered by Java Creative Café in partnership with FUTURES Factory and with the support of many volunteers. \nTogether\, the sponsors\, partners\, volunteers and CREATIVE GENERATION are committed to building up a new generation of young Cambodian artists.

SUMMARY:Figure\, 30 November 2019 - 31 January 2020
DESCRIPTION:Exhibition by Tyl Kan + Sana Oung Ty\n30 November 2019 – 31 January 2020\nF3 (Friends Futures Factory) \nTyl Kan and Sana Oung Ty worked collaboratively to produce a series of portraits of models with diverse body types. The series celebrates their beauty by presenting the models in compositions that reference works of art of idealized human form like ancient Khmer statues\, artworks of the European Renaissance\, and the quintessential paintings of alluring women in waterfalls and carrying pots that have been popular for many decades in the Cambodian art shops. For Figure\, Tyl and Sana recruited models who are unhappy or ashamed of their bodies in some way – too skinny\, overweight\, hairy or have stretch marks. While they have respected their privacy and anonymity\, each image is an intimate exploration of shame and the need for love and acceptance.

SUMMARY:In the Garden of My Own Making\, 30 November 2019 - 31 January 2020
DESCRIPTION:Lightbox mural by Chau Bormin\n30 November 2019 – 31 January 2020\nF3 (Friends Futures Factory) \n“In the Garden of My Own Making” is a light box mural by Chau Bormin. His work is highly emotive and presents an alternative male identity by using flowers and soft colors that are normally associated with femininity to construct a portrait of a young man. The artist states\, “…one should learn to love one’s body on one’s own terms; it shouldn’t matter what others see or what the media thinks is ideal. You make your own space in which you can freely express yourself and be content and happy.” He further asserts that the seeming contrast between the flowers and the male figure challenges the systemic falsehood that men are not emotional\, caring or sensitive.
